SUNDAY POST QUIZ
On Tuesday 3 June 2008 three of our members took part in The Sunday Post Quiz ably assisted by Irene, the wife of one of our members. We got off to a fantastic start and fired through the questions until number 17 which was the only question we got wrong out of twenty. At £5.00 per correct answer we netted a very credible £95.00 for our bank account. The team photograph along with the questions and answers appeared in The Sunday Post the following weekend. So after only our first fund raising effort we have already become celebrities in the national news.

 CHARITY CURRY LUNCH
On Saturday 9 August we hosted a curry lunch in the British Legion Hall to raise funds for the Army Benevolent Funds ‘World’s Biggest Charity Curry Lunch’ campaign. In the weeks leading up to the event we put on our begging caps and asked a number of local businesses to assist with buying the ingredients by donating just £5.00 each. The results were amazing and we would like to thank each and every one of our kind donors for their support. Their names can be found at the foot of this page.

A huge obstacle when cooking a curry for a potential 200 diners is who has the facilities to cope with such an order. A timely request to Major Tam Cunningham of Dunfermline Territorial Army Centre in Elgin Street soon resolved that issue and subsequently Master Chef WOII Fred Mayne (TAVR) stepped up to the challenge.

The weather was very unkind to us on the day and initially it looked as if things might not go as we had hoped. Fortunately, our members are made of sterner stuff and even the elements weren’t able to dampen our spirits. With Fred’s wonderful selection of curry, Pauline Gresty and her beautiful daughter Lauren along with Trudie Davidson running the Tombola and Raffle and Irene Laker separating the public from their money in exchange for a curry the day was a resounding success. A substantial cheque was subsequently sent to the Army Benevolent with an assurance that we intend to hold a repeat of the event in two years time.

One undoubted highlight was Kassara, a Turkish Belly Dancing Troupe who mesmerised us all with their fantastic display of tribal dancing. It is fair to say that everyone who witnessed their talents would like to pass on their thanks for a wonderful afternoon’s entertainment.

The days proceedings were captured on film by one of our members David Cruickshanks and a selection of his work can be seen on the Pictures Page. For some reason, as yet unexplained the majority of the pictures are of the dancers?

Scottish Lottery Fund Application
We are currently in negotiations with Fife Council in the hope of securing a donation from the Scottish Lottery Fund which will enable us to buy a Standard with our Association crest for use at events such as Remembrance Day Parades. We also hope to obtain a little extra for a computer on which to retain the Associations records.
